Earlier this season we found ourselves back in the studio with photographer Vanessa K Rees to do our winter holiday photo shoot. Our creative team trekked our precious floral into Brooklyn where we spent the day playing with flowers and listening to the best holiday music Pandora has to offer.
Behind the Scenes
We recently teamed up with landscape designer Kimberly Von Koontz to create a plant installation at Sotheby’s in Manhattan. We covered an entire wall with layers of ivy plants, and wrapped the room’s support columns in moss. The end result was an incredible indoor garden and we’re really excited to have been able to work on this project. Here are some behind the scenes shots of the installation in progress.

This week we shot our late fall arrangements that will shortly be offered on our website. We’re so excited to reveal to you the finished results (soon!) but until then, here are a couple of outtakes from the creation process with H.Bloom designer Hannah D’Ottavio.
Since starting H.Bloom in April of 2010, we have grown to serve customers in five cities around the country: New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco and Dallas. Today, I am excited to announce our ambitious expansion plans. Over the summer, we will be opening H.Bloom operations in Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Miami.
We know we still have plenty of work to do in our current markets to live up to our corporate value – “Each delivery is the only delivery.” We consider ourselves fortunate to have the chance to hand-deliver flower arrangements that bring joy to our corporate and consumer customers each day, and we are hard at work to make the experience consistently delightful. We are investing heavily in software development, training and process-optimization to make sure that each arrangement is exquisite, and that each delivery is on time. Please let us know if there are other things we can do to improve.
While we are expanding our geographic reach, we have also added to the breadth of our offerings. We started H.Bloom with a heavy emphasis on corporate and consumer subscriptions. Today, in addition to these consistent delivery services, we offer one-time gifts, plant installation and maintenance, weddings, and events.
We are extremely excited about our future growth, but humbled by your continued support. We aspire to become the world’s first luxury floral brand, and we know we can’t do it without your help. We are excited to announce the launch of H.Bloom University, a business and leadership training program for H.Bloom employees in three core areas: sales, operations and management. In the future, we will expand H.Bloom University to include programs for Floral Design and other functions across the company.
In 2011, we launched the SEED Program for Startup Education and Entrepreneurial Development, a formal talent development initiative to train future leaders to run local H.Bloom operations across the country. Since then, we have had five people graduate successfully from the program, and we have two more individuals participating in the program today. We have seen extraordinary accomplishments from our SEED graduates. After just one year running his own H.Bloom market, our first graduate has built a local operation that employs 12 full time people and has achieved a revenue run-rate of nearly $1.5 million. Another graduate recently opened our fifth market, Dallas, setting the record for the best new-market-growth in our history.
With H.Bloom University, we will give members of our sales, operations, and management teams the opportunity to participate in similar training. H.Bloom University will run in six-month cycles and is broken down into a series of interactive training modules. Each module is led by experienced H.Bloom staff and consists of case readings, class lectures, group discussions and skills practice.
At H.Bloom, we believe we have the opportunity to impact the world in a positive way, by hand-delivering the joys of life in local markets throughout the country. We believe that we must invest in our people and help them develop their talents in order to do this at a world-class level. H.Bloom University is designed to help members of our team achieve greatness in their individual roles and to prepare them for opportunities to come.
